Year 8 Maths

Year 8 Girls studied very well in Term 3 and increased their Maths scores. As for the Numeracy week, Year 8 girls had to compete against all Year 7 and Year 8 students. Unfortunately, girls lost in the final round to Year 8 Boys. Special thanks to Zeynep, Elis and Noor B. for their great effort, and to all our Year 8 girls who supported their team.
Year 8 girls are aware of the upcoming term and end of year exam in Term 4. They will need to put in extra effort and get high marks in their final exams.
I wish everyone a happy eid and joyful holiday.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
We had an exciting and busy few weeks at school. During Numeracy week Year 7 & 8s contested in the Mathematics Competition.
The Mathematics Competition came down to the wire where Year 8 girls and boys were tied at equal points. The competition went into overtime where 3 bonus questions were asked to decide the winner of the competition. In the end, the Year 8 boys defended last year's title by winning the competition for a second time.
The excitement continued on in the week with the World of Math incursion. Students were engaged working with puzzles and hands on activities.
I wish everyone a safe and joyful holiday.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
It was an exciting few weeks at school where students were involved in Numeracy Week festivities.
The Year 9 & 10s contested in the Mathematics Competition. For most of the competition, the points for all year levels were really close. However, the Year 10 boys remained determined and strong to win the competition. The student felt elated as they forgot last year's defeat where they lost the competition at the final question.
The fun continued during the week as the Year 10 boys watched 'Stand and Deliver'. This movie is based on a true story about Jaime Escalante, a high school teacher who successfully inspires his students to do well in mathematics.
Till our next issue, I hope you all have an enjoyable and safe holiday.

This term we learned Ecosystem with Year 7 students. While we are learning we also looked at how much of an impact we as people have on ecosystem. We are polluting rivers and also wasting materials! Students tried to develop solutions to stop the pollution that we are creating.
They expanded their knowledge with the activity Danny the Drip. They poured all the pollutant in to the our imitation river and we had productive discussion about the effects of pollution and the possible solutions.
Year 9 Science

This term we learned Coordination and the Systems. We completed several experiments on this topic to help us understand and extend student's knowledge further. We even dissected sheep heart to understand how blood circulation occurs in our body. We also dissected bull's eye to differentiate parts of the eye and their functions.

Prophets have been sent to all nations and tribes across human history. Each Prophet was special in their unique ways, in their unique times and to their particular communities they were sent to. But what makes us so clear of who was a prophet/messenger? What characteristics, qualities are common to define and identify a prophet/messenger in Islam? This project focuses specifically on the life of our Noble Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and is in conjunction with the 'Everybody is talking about Him' competition facilitated by ISRA (refer to the ISRA website), where top 3 in the high school category can win $800, $400 and $200.
